Roman syncreticism is echoed in the re-created Proto-Indo-European pantheon, but they also syncreticized non-Indo-European pantheons such as the Semetic Babylonian/Akkadian/Canaanite/Arabian pantheons and the Egyptian pantheon, the latter of which may be more closely related to the Bantu pantheon(s) than Indo-European.
But my point was, just because the Romans used syncretic ideas as a political tool for managing the Empire does not mean that their results were in any way correct. As I said, it can be more fun if the Romans are ultimately wrong! (Romani ite domum!)
