As for why is so much effort was used in the book to create a source for playing as a line trooper, rather than heroic special forces: Well, it could have been to be a bit different. Most military roleplaying games already aim at the "cinematic special forces" kind of angle. There are plenty of resources on what to do on that angle already (the most straight forward being to simply watch action war films). Players (and GMs) also probably require less guidance to play that kind of game. However, how to play and GM "realistic" war rpgs is done less often and so would require more guidance about what skills are likely, how to use the rules for that etc. Personally I think I would rather do a "line-trooper" game for ww2 than a "special forces". Most of the books I have read and films and tv programmes I have watched about WW2 have been about that aspect of the war. It is what I am most interested in in WW2. |
