Another little thing which struck me was one of the new Powers, along with Disease, Dream/Nightmare, Fear, etc was The State; the Power set for MiB's and the like.
It's a simple concept, but not an obvious choice for a 'Power' like Fire, Fear or Illusion. Makes me wonder what other similar concepts might warrant a power.

Is this good crunch for gaming out things such as acquisition and treatment of PSTD?
Or for a less realistic tangent, something along the lines of Jacob's Ladder?

Not to make trouble, but - I really don't see this in the book. Page reference?

Clearly. I need MH1 if I extend my GURPS Infinite Worlds campaign into the summer. I need Horror... because I'm ashamed to admit I missed out on the last edition. In my defense, I will say that I was just about to buy it when 4e was announced. So I have been waiting a long time to see Hite's take on pirate horror.

I bought both. I needed to test out that new debit card anyway, so I figured "what the hell?"

Pirates get a surprising number of references in Horror, and a Cinematic Pirate Template on p152!

Yes, that was the first section I flipped to when I opened up the pdf. I'm going to have to put my nitpicking glasses on and see what, if anything, turns up.

I remember his Surpressed Transmission take on Iron Chef. I would be afraid to read Ken Hite's grocery shopping list.

There's nothing about such magic in Horror beyond references to Ritual Magic (p. B242) and to the Path/Book magic of Thaumatology, in the Seas of Dread campaign frame. For a rundown on what is in the new edition, my summary wasn't exactly lacking in detail.

In my professional opinion it's a very simplified and generic gameable abstraction. It doesn't get into specifics, and that's what you need for game. It makes choices that are clearly geared towards the game and that you'd be hard-pressed to relate to the reality of psychotherapy or psychiatric care, like "loose your recovery points if you fail a fright check".

It's very generic though, it doesn't say what the psychiatry and psychology rolls are representing, so you can fit all sorts of specific treatments into those rolls and those intervals of treatment.

Edit: it's really clever in the sense that's it's really abstract, which means it doesn't automatically blow your supsension of disbelief. Rolls also lat a lot of variance in treatment times, which is important, the same meantal health professional treating two people with the same problem will take different times each time, even though you can sometimes estimate the average time it takes to treat some conditions. Rolls cover this fine, you can get a speedy recovery with no failures and a few criticals, but you can also take forever if the patient fails his rolls or has sporadic exposure to stressful situations.

It's been 6 years since I've worked clinically though, and I've never worked with post-traumatic stress specifically (well, just once, in college, but that was like 10 years ago).
