Default Sons of Old Nassau origin

What is the origin of the name for the Sons of Old Nassau faction? Just curious.

edit

Okay, I remembered the SON was from the Barbarians at the Gate set. The rule book has background information on the faction but not why they are named that. I did a web search and the only thing 'Nassau' came up with was the capital of the Bahamas.

Tis a puzzlement.

if nothing else it not only sounds cool but sounds like some actual name of a military faction.

They were on one of the sponsored sheets, right? You'd have to ask whoever paid for it.

They're the tiger-striped units, right? I thought it was a Princeton reference: "Old Nassau" is the alma mater, and the mascot is a tiger.

And we have a winner!

Yes, prior to working for SJGames, I sponsored a counter sheet during the ODE Kickstarter that became the Barbarians at the Gate set. There are a number of "hat tips" or Easter eggs in the set to things that I've enjoyed or are important in my life. As a graduate of Princeton, this is one of them. Nassau Hall is the original building of Princeton with a long and storied history, and "Old Nassau" is another term for Princeton.

Well done, prospero!

I'm glad you mentioned this. I thought the sons of nassua was some kind of capital city protection force for the bahamas.

That is really really cool...I had no idea SoN was a Drew Metzger Original.
It's also really comforting to know I'm in good company when it comes to borrowing from real life as part of submissions.

In "Artificial Irreverence", those were named in tribute to a dearly departed friend (who would have made an incredible MIB, and taught me a good deal of what I knew about teaching games before joining myself), my high school German teacher, my grandmothers' maiden names, and a name pulled from thin air (I was fishing for a German surname and it was the first thing that came to mind) that I found out months later had a coincidence behind it.

There is a reference in Daimyo and Dragon, a nod to my past, but I won't get into the details.
