I prefer long knives myself. They do not suffer a Parry penalty and they have superior reach and damage.

I would recommend just putting points in Judo.

Holding to the original intent of the thread, would you allow a Technique to buy off the penalty for parrying in close-quarters with an Axe/Mace skill weapon? Funky grips or whatnot could be subsumed into the effects of the Technique without having to go into the nitty gritty details.
