391. Not allowed to by Speed on charges.

392. Not allowed to buy an autofire NND
392a. Especially not with area of effect
392b. Especially if no one on the team has the defense

393. Not allowed to sky-write "Friends of Tacyon meet me at the Prudential Center" during the Great Supervillian Contest.
393a. Especially if Tacyon is a high value target in the GSC.
393b. Not allowed to complain when none of my team mates show up and I have to fight the responding villains alone.

394. Not allowed to have villain buy NND:Baby, defense is no code v. killing and throw babies (3d6 EB (Physical)) at heroes.

395. Not allowed to have villain have teleport power and have his PD defined as teleporting an NPC into the path of the hero's attack to absorb the damage.

No Normal Defense. It allows damage from an ability to only be resisted by very rarely used defenses, but just having the defense makes you immune, as I understand it.

Exactly -- normally the defense is something relatively inexpensive like Flash Defense, 10 points of life support (a gas mask), hardened defenses, and so on. Importantly, NNDs only do STUN damage, so they are good anti-mook weapons.

In this case, one of the PCs took an autofire NND, area of effect 1 hex, defense was hardened defenses. And a bunch of mooks were pig-piling our martial artist. So PC fired. AoE hex meant that the martial artist's huge dodge-equivalent didn't apply, and since his defense was not getting hit, he'd never invested in hardened defenses. Result -- mooks and martial artist took huge amounts of STUN damage and were out for the rest of the fight.

Don't forget that adding Autofire to an NND is an additional +1 advantage. Also, an Autofire on an AoE is another +1 advantage. It gets expensive fast! If you're really feeling cruel, and you can get GM approval, it's just another +1 advantage to add "Does Body."

That's not a legal defense anyway. A Defense versus an NND must be that you have something, not the absence of something.

Clearly inadequate munchkin skills. The time I ran into it included the observation that
  1. By the scatter rules, the maximum scatter of an area attack that missed was half the distance to the target (this may not be true in the current rules edition)
  2. The target is 1 hex away.
  3. My AoE is larger than 1 hex.
  4. Therefore, every shot in my 40 shot autofire hits.
  5. And, of course, immune to my own powers.
