Hit the Torso by 5+, hit the vitals instead...
...I like the random chance to hit the vitals on a torso attack, but would this work as well? I'd prefer not to add ANOTHER roll.

Works for me. Perhaps the same thing for Face and Eyes? Problem is that if it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander. Lucky NPCs can really put a crimp in the PC's plans with a lucky shot.

True...but then, torso armor is almost always the highest DR.
Maybe 6+ on a face hit you hit the skull?...hmmmm.

Is there not a official rule on this in MA or was it HT?
Were if a pi or a impailing hit hits torso there is a 1 in 6 change of a vitals hit? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Both. Torso hits get 1d6, on a 1 you hit the vitals. MA has face hits 1 making it a skull hit.

How about combining it? Each + is the chance of hitting vitals?
Torso hit at +1 = 1 in 6 chance. Torso hit at +5 is 5 in 6 chance. Same with the face/eyes-skull I don't know that I would make it auto hit the vitals though, I think there should still be the chance that you miss the vitals with a well aimed shot. .02 All of that said, I have always used a house rule that each +2 is a -1 to the defense rolls, so I'm not sure if this would cause high skill munchikining problems for me... |

For my games, for guns and ranged weapons, any torso hit by 3+ hits the vitals instead, or I should say, "in addition."
These weapons are aimed for center of mass anyway; that's just about always the vitals.

Hmmm.
See, I'm running a Star Wars game right now, so these are high-accuracy, low-recoil, high-armor penetration blasters that could be tricked out with some nasty accessories, so you've got some very effective weapons with aimed shots. I mean, aimed shots make things really hard anyway, but this is fairly high end stuff I'm considering vs. the PCs, and I like the hits the vitals element. Hmmm.

hmm as a sometime GM...my leaning would be NO.
If the player doesnt know the system, his skill, and the odds; and he doesnt bother to ask...then s/he gets what they get. As a Player I may forward this thread to my GM for consideration. Interesting guys. THX

Since I was taught aim at a small part of a target, not the target as a whole, I would rather flip the math and say if you aim at the vitals (center-mass) and miss by 5 or less, you still hit the torso.
Semantics, yeah I know. I just like to have Guns-8 players using some of the same thought processes as their Guns-15 characters.
