[Game] Let's Make a Post-Apocalyptic Setting
Okay, since After The End 1 came out recently, and I was reminded of this idea by the Generate a Space Trader Setting thread cropping up again, let's give this a crack.
We'll use the same question - answer format the other Setting Generator threads have. You answer the previous question, then ask one of your own. If you could assign a number to your question that'd be great. The first question is obvious: Q1) How did it end? |

Disease.
Lets take this in steps: Is the disease natural, is it man-made, or is it supernatural? Or is it somehow none of the above?

Just under 4 weeks. Between wars erupting due to mutual paranoia, the infection of about 90% of the world's population, leading to comas, and the attacks by the victims after they emerged from their comas, society was unable to maintain cohesion for much longer than that. What happens when the victims emerge from their comas? |

Chtorrically. However unlike War Against The Chtorr, the alien microbes weren't quite robust enough to completely overwhelm the Earth... just enough to push civilization past the brink and into collapse.
The resulting problem isn't radiological (at least not everywhere, some areas were nuked to try to contain the threat), but Bio-Contamination. [EDIT] Or never mind. That's what I get for spell checking Chtorr. Of course the disease could have been part and parcel with the alien terraforming attempt...[/EDIT] |

Are their any surviving beacons of civilization? If so, how did they come into being?

There are persistent rumors that some very remote regions may have escaped the disease - such stories usually focus on pacific islands, Australia, or the furthest northern reaches of Scandinavia - but people who know the science usually dismiss stories like these as comforting fantasies. Were there any major secondary disasters, brought about by the chaos wrought by the first?
