Piercing damage and blunt trauma
Just noticed something odd in Power-Ups 1.
The description of Piercing Strike says "This improves blunt trauma for most non-crushing attacks..." However, per B379 piercing does the same amount of blunt trauma as cutting/impaling. So what's the deal here? |

Re: Piercing damage and blunt trauma
It means you get to treat a Piercing, Cutting or Impaling attack like it's a Crushing attack for Blunt Trauma. Don't get hung up on the word Piercing.

Re: Piercing damage and blunt trauma
I only quoted part of the rules text (since copy/pasting too much from a rulebook is frowned upon). The original phrasing seems to imply that the improved blunt trauma is a consequence of making the damage piercing (which is the main effect of the skill), rather than an additional benefit.

Re: Piercing damage and blunt trauma
I'm reasonably sure it's talking about attacks that aren't cutting or impaling. If you've got a flame-thrower or laser gun, an acid-sprayer, or a sonic stunner (burning, corrosion, and fatigue, respectively), and they don't have the damage to penetrate the foe's flexible DR, turning them into piercing to get blunt trauma is a decent tactical choice.

Re: Piercing damage and blunt trauma
Except that cutting and impaling damage gets blunt trauma at 10 per point of base damage, just like piercing.
