UI Explanations and Minor Tweaks
Hey all! We’ve received a lot of feedback regarding the User Interface (UI) of Ogre, and we’re working hard on improving it. We realized some of the advanced functionality may not be immediately obvious; so we’ve made some improvements to the UI indicators in the latest update. (Version 1.1.4.0) We also created a quick video to show the functionality in action.
You can watch the video, or read along below. Happy hunting, and thank you all for your feedback! https://youtu.be/IIBLIQZ79n8 How to: Preview a Tile By default, when you hover over a tile, the information shows the on the right side of the screen. If the tile is occupied by a single unit, that unit’s information shows alongside the contents of a tile. How to: Pin a Tile (makes it easier to see info on the tile and units in it!) To pin tile information to the side of the screen, you can do one of three things: -You can select the tile by pressing the left mouse button. -You can press the middle mouse button. -Or you can press the “T” key. This is useful when you don’t want to select a unit, or confirm an action, but still want to observe a tile. You can pin a tile at any point in the game, regardless of whether it is currently selectable or not. Note that when selecting a tile which contains units during movement or firing, the pinned tile automatically changes to that tile. How to: Show Unit Information By pinning the tile information to the side of the screen, you can hover over each unit or terrain overlay to reveal extra information about it. The following information is shown: unit stats, status effects, and contextual information for the movement and firing phases. How to: Show an Ogre’s Full System Information The unit information is especially important for the most important units in the game: the Ogres. Ogres have multiple subsystems, each with their own stats, as well as information about how many systems have been destroyed, and how many remain. To show the relevant information for each subsystem, simply hover your mouse over the subsystem’s icon. The game will reveal all important information about the system. Tooltips You can move your mouse cursor over the unit info box to reveal tooltips about each informational element. You can adjust the time it takes for a tooltip to appear in the options menu. Tooltips contain helpful information for new players, so if you’re unsure of what something does; don’t hesitate to hover over it! Note: You can’t hover over the Ogre subsystem info at the moment. However, the stats for each system are the same as normal units, with the addition of an ammo indicator for missile pods. We’ve labelled these for convenience. |
