Default Moving contrary monsters

If a contrary monster cannot take it's first move by moving backwards, will it stop movement or leave the room by the colored arrow?

Just like any other Monster, if a Contrary Monster can't make its first move, it won't make any others.

OK, thanks.
I guess we played it wrong then, as we let it move by the color rolled, if it could not move in the opposite direction.

So, if a contrary monster cannot make it's first move (reverse direction from the arrow rolled), it will not move. Does this mean that if there is a wall, secret, or hidden door in the opposite direction of the color rolled (and assuming the contrary monster doesn't have the ability to normally go through those sorts of links), it will just stay in the room it started in?

Yes. Just like a Monster with normal movement abilities wouldn't move if it could not perform its first move.
