Re: Prootwaddles
I've always equated them with Snotlings from Warhammer.
Both labels evoke the same image for me. Maybe social cousins of Gully Dwarves from Dragonlance. |

Re: Prootwaddles
Under the old rules, they could only use clubs. I figured that an experienced Prootwaddle adventurer would be really good with a club. Since they couldn't have the Literacy skill, I figured that when a Prootwaddle got a penny or two, he'd pay someone who was literate to paint words on him. You think YOU have a bad job...

Re: Prootwaddles
I always imagined the Prootwaddles to look something like the Pinheads from Todd Brownings 1932 film 'Freaks'.

Ragged, raucous, cheerful little creatures of impulse and appetite.

@CardDiceian: Now imagining the Prootwaddle solidarity chant:
Goobah-gobbah, goobah-gobbah, ONE OF US, ONE OF US!

Re: Prootwaddles
I never used them, and barely recalled them from TFT. Hearing the name again, I assumed they are a tribal race of penguin people. I think I'd use them if they were that - clannish, superstitious, and ungainly-on-land little penguin hominids. I could see those posing an interesting quandary for players if handled right.

Re: Prootwaddles
Since no extensive description of them was ever really offered, your depiction sounds like a good one; go for it! ;-)

Re: Prootwaddles
Ironically, a Prootwaddle was one of the most iconic NPCs in my original TFT campaign. I don't remember how he cropped up, but he fell in with the party, who - while deeming him a nuisance - figured he'd be handy for menial things they didn't want to do themselves... like watch the horses while they went into the dungeon.
Of course, once they got out, the horses were gone. Fleebur (the Prootwaddle's name - although I later determined that ALL Prootwaddles from that tribe were named "Fleebur") had traded them for a cool-looking dufflebag. The party almost killed him right then, except there turned out to be a couple of "items of interest" in the bag, which set them off on another adventure. From then on, Fleebur the Prootwaddle became the ultimate MacGuffin for me to use on unsuspecting (or even totally suspecting) Player Characters. PS: I always pictured Prootwaddles as resembling "Bat Mite" from one of the animated Batman series back in the '70s... |

Re: Prootwaddles
I've read Steve & Philip & Guy hinting at ANOTHER Kickstarter for future TFT.
I humbly suggest one of the stretch goals be a plush prootwaddle designed by John Kovalic.
