Re: Cairo 1920s/1930s Adventures Wanted
Egypt under the British... There is so much to do here.
The Wafd Party was a nationalist liberal political party in Egypt. Egyptian Communist Party was a non starter, boasted 1500 members with 400 of those in Alexandria. Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt developed from 1928. It was a sort of welfare society until around 1936. Christian charities began to enchroach on the Muslim missions. The State of Egypt was created in 1922 so there could be some bouyed sense of a new venture after World War 1 (or the Great War). There could be resentment towards the French and the British who were seen as Imperialist meddlers - but who will protect the Suez? Reisner was responsible for many of the Giza excavations. |
