I didn't get any of the tippy tag vibe from those kohutovic vids at all. In fact, it felt TOO well versed if anything, with a bit much over-intent.

And having worked with feather swords, I can tell you light bruising is NOT the only thing we worry about. Sprains and broken fingers are very common. I was struck on the head (wearing a mask even) at just under the speed they were practicing at and saw stars. Edges can get nicks during play and act as saws. The threshold between a bruise on the side of my knee and me being unable to fence for some time is quite small.

Probably a case of YMMV. Using those after a padded hockey stick style padded waster, those are nowhere near as damaging, in my experience.

In my exprience feather swords hit about as hard as a blunt single handed sword (it should be noted that full weight hit a lot harder, so much so that some targets, such as the hands, can never be safly armoured) meaning that good padding with something stronger for vulnerable bits (head, hands, forearms, groin).

As far as videos go here's one with a lot of mixed weapon bouting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgUq8UTdqk8

And to add to the pile here's an interesting talk about fighting from horseback http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baC6iWFxDwY

And here's a somewhat comical demonstration of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLiVI3U65HY

Also here's a bout between a rapier and longsword http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r7VWIQCHvM

I though it worth including since there's been a few debates about the topic around the forums and I figured it might, possibly, maybe, help, a little.
