Default Payoff

To use the card payoff what happens.do you play it on a monster? do you play it on a player? do you get the treasure after? is it wasted? does anyone get a level?

Thanks (unless your advice dosent help.)

Default Re: Payoff

Well, my advice is going to help, so I'll accept your thanks now.

The context clues aren't overly subtle, but could be overlooked. First off, you are supposed to use it during combat, since that's what the cards says right from the beginning. The bit about bribing a foe goes in line with the fact that the card does not say any combat, meaning you must play this during one of your own combats. The part where it tells you one Monster leaves and leaves its Treasure behind means three things:
  1. If you're fighting more than one Monster, you get to pick which one leaves.
  2. You did not kill the Monster, so you can't get a Level.
  3. You get the Monster's Treasure, assuming there are no other Monsters, or if there are, you defeat them all. (Since that's actually written in the rules)
