Default The M40 rifle [High-Tech]

Is there any gameable difference between the basic M40 rifle listed under the Remington 700 entry and it's successors the M40A1 to M40A5?

No.

I might argue if there's a difference in weight then track it, assuming tenth of pound differences are important, but GURPS is so coarse that even measurable differences in real life accuracy are below its resolution and features added for shooter's comfort aren't really that important.

Basically, it seems that there is only a fluff difference between them. How about the Weapon Bond Perk?

Weapon Bond applies to one weapon only. You don't take Weapon Bond (M40A2), you take Weapon Bond (Old Painless, my custom-made M40A2). Unless you're asking something completely different.

Ummm, wasn't the original M40 was the Winchester Mod 70? When Winchester changed the design the Remington Mod 700 was adopted as the M40A1.

I don't know anything about that. The book only has the M40 variant under the Remington 700's entry.

The original M40 was a Win. M70 from the USMC competition team. The same bunch probably accurized the Remington.

It's true Weapon Bond is for one specific weapon, but it in no way has to be customized.

No. The Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 was used prior to the adoption of the M40, from 1965. The M40, however, has always been based on the Remington Model 700.

Cheers
