A mysterious patron hires adventurers for a quest. When they gather at the arranged meeting point, they find a man in fine clothing with a dagger in his chest.

The heroes are hired to rescue a pet dragon from a selfish princess.

I used that one (or a variation) recently (though it wasn't so much "owners" as "the demons who caused the last global apocalypse, of which that book is a remnant of the times before").

Eventually the book's new owner had the idea to try forging a telepathic link with the book and his learning of magic started going a lot quicker...

A group of travellers arrive in a village. All of the inhabitants seem to have died in the night with no signs of violence.

A young person disappears from school and home with no trace how they left. The only clue seems to be a stash of a new designer drug that has been associated with other disappearances.

In a laboratory being attacked by cyborg soldiers transparent cylinders drain of liquid and release their confused occupants.

A spaceship emerges from hyperspace...only to find the stars around them unrecognizable.
