My original point was that the "regular" creatures in TFT such as wolves, lions, bears, etc are headed into becoming as fantastical as gryphons and 14 hex dragons due to humankind's destructive actions, that's all, and that when we play a wolf or bear is as welcome a beast to deal with as is some utterly fantastic concoction included by the GM.
And that last is a perfectly valid point!

Some of the non-fantastic creatures in TFT are a little fantastic anyway. Wolves, for instance, just aren't that aggressive toward armed humans. And rats do not fight to the death.

Well, of course, anything will fight to the death if you corner it...

I remember this freaking HUGE rat that took up residence in a garden shed one time -- attacked the cat and severely injured it; we had to go in after it, and I swear it was as big as a small dog (I'm talking small poodle here, not chihuahua). We eventually chased it away, because none of us had the intestinal fortitude to go up against that thing mano-a-rato! (And one of us was a Green Beret -- I kid you not!)

Should a large standing bear be a three-hexer?
I would keep as many figures as possible at 1 hex size, even if it's a bit of a handwave. Multi-hex figures can be complicated to maneuver compared with single hex figures.

And NOTHING fights harder than a cornered rat.
