Obviously I had to get over that.

So I actually had the mitigator but, perhaps we could add the 'only under stress' modifier (IDHMBWM) to represent not using it under normal circumstances. In game terms I suspect that would mean suffering the full penalty to anything where the PC is surprised or (for example) needs to check for spotting something he isn't actively looking for.
That's a perfect explaination of why I can't let people who can wear glasses and choose not to get more points for it than those who do.

Thanks (even if that wasn't your point)

Personally, when I GM, I never have arguments with the PCs.

I might have an argument with a player, but a PC? How does that work?

This sounds reasonable.

As it happens, when I was writing my post, I was thinking about a friend of mine with similar issues. She has some optical correction gadget (more like a tiny microscope than a single lens) which allows her to read and see a similar level of detail close-up, but without it, she's pretty much limited to light/dark.

Eh, it sounded like it might be justifiable as a quirk to me.

An unusual explanation for the Phantom Voices disadvantage ('The voices are the OOC chatter that goes on around the game table' - Which might also serve as an explanation for some advantages...)

Ever watch the old George of the Jungle cartoon? It would probably be like that.

LOL -- Zinged, zanged, and zinged again! I stand corrected. (Well, actually, I sit corrected at the moment since we're being technical.)

That said, there have been moments when the PC was considerably more annoying than the player behind him .... :-D

(And Suedodeus, I'm going to have to keep that George of the Jungle tactic in mind for future reference. *grin*)

Yeah actually I think my cousin is one of these rare people, cause I've heard that even though she DOES wear glasses, her vision isn't 20/20, because her vision is just that damn bad in the first place, they can't make glasses able to fully correct her vision.

I would have difficulty allowing a player to define "only when necessary" in game terms. Giving the player an extra 15 points, but without making him take the penalties for bad sight, is just asking for trouble.

I would start with the basis that I had the right to tell him that he wasn't wearing them at any point...

Me, I would start with the basis that he couldn't wear glasses at all, because that's what he paid for.
