Enhanced Time Sense vs Illusion
Would Enhanced Time Sense give you any advantage against Illusion spells and powers?

Re: Enhanced Time Sense vs Illusion
Depends whether the illusion is trying to emulate things that would be noticeably different at a high frame rate -- for example, lights with a 60Hz flicker, or a television screen.

Mostly not, though perhaps if they're making an illusion of a hummingbird or something similar.

Re: Enhanced Time Sense vs Illusion
Why would the illusion be any different than reality for someone with ATR ?

ETS lets you notice things like an illusion always reacting at the same time( or after) a specific other person, or an illusion letting a solid surface penetrate it for a split second before it gets corrected by the controller of the illusion. I suspect that there would be other tell-tale signs to ETS that something is just an image, much like someone with thermal imaging would more easily notice an undead or an illusion with an incorrect heat signature. Eh, Supers explains what levels of ATR are needed to replicate the more modest feats of ETS (such as catching bullets). The point costs of those levels are quite high, though.

Re: Enhanced Time Sense vs Illusion
I think that for it's cost, ETS is somewhat underpowered unless one is liberal with regards to what it can be applied to. For this reason, I would allow it to benefit one's ability to discern illusion in most campaigns. It could give a bonus to a roll (e.g. to the contest for the Illusion advantage) or give a (perhaps penalized) roll to someone who otherwise wouldn't get one. I would probably use either +2 or +4 as the bonus depending on the campaign to be consistent with certain precedents in GURPS Powers.
Naturally, I would give no benefit if the illusion creator also had ETS. In fact, I may even be convinced to allow an illusionist with ETS to claim a bonus to their effectiveness vs those who did not have ETS. If that seemed too overpowered, I would think that ETS would at least provide an illusionist justification to take Reliable (or the equivalent) on their illusion abilities. |

Re: Enhanced Time Sense vs Illusion
Eh, Enhanced Time Sense is probably underpriced, though its behavior is also a bit nonsensical since it can't give extra time bonuses, which is the logical effect of the way it's described. In any case, the general situation for illusions is that it's hard to make an illusion of something that the illusion crafter doesn't know exactly what looks like; thus, any illusions that contain elements that someone with ETS could see clearly but someone without ETS cannot will give bonuses to the person with ETS. On the other hand, ETS will provide no benefits for seeing through illusions of things that are unmoving or move slowly enough that normal perception is good enough.
