Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
Honestly, I feel the 80% limitation on Unfazable is the most reasonable, or else make it a Perk. Unless Fright Checks are an important part of your campaign, this would fall under Perks as an immunity from a rule, reducing that given rule by a level of severity. You still suffer from disadvantages, but You Get Better. Sounds like a perk to me unless you're in a Horror game.

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
I agree with the people recommending the "Unfazeable (Doesn't do anything useful right now, -80%) [3]" approach. If that seems too convoluted and back door-ish, then call it Immunity to a "Rare" effect for 5 points. I'd word that as "Immunity to PTSD [5]," and treat PTSD as a single syndrome for this purpose (that last part bends reality a bit but works well enough for a game). This trait would grant total immunity to acquiring mental disabilities caused by all kinds of Fright, Awe, and Confusion Checks, as well as those inflicted by any similar mechanism invented by the rules or the GM.

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
An alternate build might start with Resistant (Immunity) to lasting fear effects ([rarity set to campaign type]).

No, I think the 3-point version is the best. It's a little too much for a Perk IMO.

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
And I think I have a new campaign advantage for future games: I've always loathe phobias and fright checks because they either force me the GM to not play the disadvantage to its full extend and give free points, or to hose a player, and it smells of brinksmanship.
Thank you for bringing this up and giving a good price for it.

Phobias aren't right for every game.

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
As a Perk, it lets you replace any permanent Fright Check effect with the next worse non-permanent effect.

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
This is an almost necessary advantage for immortals to keep them from going batty from rare but inevitable traumas.

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
I generally gave something like this to everyone for free; in my games, the “permanent” results of Fright Checks were subject to a spectrum like crippling injuries, using nearly the same rules with WL substituted for HT.
Now, however, I'm using a system based on Ghostdancer's Mad As Bones article introducing Sanity Points. |

Re: No Permanent Effects from Fright Checks Advantage
Here's a different approach. A new advantage called "Mental Regrowth". Based on Regrowth it lets you heal back any otherwise permanent mental traumas.
