In the spirit magic (path/book) system, I can make a magic item with the Fetish ritual: Summon a spirit, Bind it, then trap it in the object. The penalty is pretty steep, at -16 for a wimpy spirit with ST and HT 8, harder otherwise, especially considering that the max bonus from extra time, sacrifice, and symbolic connections is +15.
If the fetish is broken, the spirit is released, but what's the duration otherwise? Potentially permanent, or must you also soak a penalty based on how long you want it to last (-9 for a year)? In other words, is the intent to make fetish creation nigh impossible for a single caster? Thanks, GEF |

As far as I can tell, it lasts as long as the object does.

In Desolation Road it created a permanent item. Permanence is the difference between a Talisman and a Fetish, so I think it's built into the ritual. Another way to look at it is that the ritual isn't powering the item, the spirit is.

Thanks both. That was my impression, but it didn't seem explicit. -GEF
