"Never heard of it. Never lived lived in the south. You don't have any papers then? <in distance> Some one lost their papers again! <returning to phone with exasperated voice> We can contact the School. Stay where you are, and we'll get back to your station when we hear back from the school. Please Hand the phone back to the policeman"

Assuming he does (feel free to not do so).

Rolf takes the phone and says "Stick around here. You're not so much under arrest as in custody until the embassy gets back to us. have a seat."

The man pulls up a chair for himself.

"You're from the us and have no idea how you got here... where'd you learn german?"

The man seems friendly in his question ... he's here with you waiting for the call and it seems he'd prefer to talk while he waits.


OCC: You got a reaction roll for the guy on the other side of the phone, and I'm afraid it didn't go well. The exact result is hidden though.

Parker relaxes and sit's down as well.

"I've spent a fair amount of time in Germany in the past, though in Austria I have visited only Vienna for a conference for a few days. I've been all over the continent though conducting research and digs during school breaks. I suppose when I get back home I'll see this as a free trip.", he chuckles. Parker then asks some general question about the latest news in Austria, trying to make polite conversation.

Rolf: "Digs? what do you ... Oh, that's right, you are an archaeology professor! "

"Yes, you will have quite the adventure."

"Well, the Russians are driving east still, but they haven't made it out of the territory we took from them yet, and the Germans are sending troops down south to help, and you know how the russians are about moving troops. You have the fighting up in Transylvania. We're getting troops there now, so everything should hold. The Serbians seem to have given up, and there are huge troop movements to the north.What else... the Kaiser celebrated his birthday in the Ukraine. That should show the Russians we mean business. "

OCC: if you want to roll history, ask for it.

Parker thought the news sounded a little familiar (He tries to remember his history).

"I'm a bit confused have we entered WW3 while I was asleep?"

The news doesn't sound familiar at all (bad roll).

Rolf: "World War.. Do you not remember the start of the war?"

Parker is very concerned and confused by this news of war.

"Did Russia make a move against NATO while I was asleep? How long was I out?"

Rolf: "Nay-Toe? I... you really don't remember the war starting? Its been going on for almost two years now. Its like no war you've ever seen. The war started in 1914. its 1916 now."

Parker is taken back by this claim. He would think the man was pulling his leg, but he spoke of it so seriously. Parker isn't sure whats going on, but he decides to play along for now.

"I think perhaps I have amnesia this war sounds familiar, but my memory is fuzzy. Could I perhaps gain a newspaper and learn a little more about recent news?".

Rolf thinks for a moment, as though he is suspicious of Dr. Parker's request, then stands up and grabs a paper from behind a desk.

If this is a prank, then the man had the newspaper already to go. Its June 8th, 1916. Its a Wednesday. The paper is full of blurbs about the war -- Austria is fighting Romania, Italy, Russia. The paper distinguishes between Austrian and Hungarian forces properly, and everything looks pretty authentic.

Parker can't truly believe it but he knows that he should probably play along till he can figure out what's going on.

"I think my memory is becoming a little clearer. So what shall we do next?"
