Default Superhuman Types

Superhuman Types

This is primarly for my world called Earth Alpha but I thought you might like these ideas. In Southern California 10% of the population are mutants; 15% are muticants; and 5% are carriers. The only place in the world which is as mutant rich as Southern California is the country of Japan. Most mutants are supercivilians in that they just want to lead their lives as peacefully as possible. Enjoy my article.

Mutant - A person born with paranormal abilities. There are hundreds of genes that determine who becomes a mutant/muticant/carrier or just a baseline. It is called the Mutant Gene Complex or MGC.

Muticant - A person who is not born with super powers but can get them. In the Marvel Universe they are called Mutates. In the DC Universe mutants and muticants are all called Metahumans. I used to use the term Altered.

Carrier - Someone who wont become a mutant but can have offspring who become mutants etc.

Baseline - A person who doesn't have any paranormal abilities.

Near-Baseline - A person with a few minor paranormal abilities.

Superhuman Alterable Genetic Archtype (SAGA) - These genetic alterations can only be done on muticants. A group or company patents an archtype (Archie as slang) that alters the subjects genetic structure. Making them super strong and resistant to small arms fire (AA Guardsmen) or in another case they are able to create water (Aquajoy Watermen). These changes are generally permanent but alterable (The company gives and the company takes away). Companys generally strike a deal such as they give you an archtype and if you work for them for 10 years and you can keep it forever. Run and you run forever; this can get very complex and there are lawyers for just that. NOTE: Archtypes usually are not as powerful as most mutant superheroes and supervillains. In game terms make up a superhero template and give it to them. Every character should be different.

Genetically Altered Groups (GAG) - This is a rare condition where a whole group of people are hit with something giving them nearly identical powers. Examples: Sea Knights (USA) and the Royal Polish Horseman (Poland). Both occured during WW2.

Eldritch Gene Complex - Determines who can have magic powers or Chi powers. This complex is not as big as the MGC but you can have both.

Not everybody who is a superhero has super powers. There are martial artists, Supernormals, dreadnaughts, gadgeteers and the like. None of these people have MGC or EGC but they still do okay.
