Wandering Monster

Hello,
my friends and i are unsure as to what happens if a 'Wandering Monster' card is drawn face up.

We have a creeping feeling that it means that we can put monsters down for them to fight but are unsure. What is the official stance?

It is not a monster or a curse, so it goes into your hand.
