Default Illusion Card ruling

The illusion card states that you discard the monster in play and replace with a monster in your hand. Well, what if the person playing the illusion card had either no monsters in their hand or no cards at all after playing the illusion. Does the illusion still allow the monster to disappear to be replaced by nothing or does that make the illusion card invalid?

You can't play Illusion if you have no monster card in your hand, as per the following official ruling:
