Default Creating new data files

I just bought GCA and conformed I am running the latest version on my Win10 machine. I want to add stuff for my specific world.

I tried creating a race template and saved it but it would not open in the application.
I created a new gdf file by using another as a template and made some minor changes and saved it under a new name using notepad.
However windows lists it as a text file and GCA will not see it. The property tab lets me choose GCA but it does not take.
Suggestions?

Did you try to change the extension manualy from .txt to .gdf?

When you save it, can you choose to input another extrension except txt? I use Notepad++ which causes no problems with this.

PS: Make sure you can see the extension in the windows explorer (uncheck the checkbox under map properties which tells it to hide extensions). Not sure if its the same in Win 10 as in Win 7. Else you think you have a gdf file while windows puts .txt at the end not visible to you.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes I manually changed the file extension, however upon checking folder properties I see it was indeed hiding a txt extension.
Feel kinda stupid now but thank you that resolved it!
