newb help? innate melee attack
I'm at a loss to understand how innate melee attacks work with a character's natural ST stat and how that affects the point cost of the attack.
Here are my questions more specifically; 1. are innate melee attacks always based on a character's Thrusting damage? 2. do you buy levels of innate attack (modified with the melee limitation) and add a character's thrust or swing damage to that level? 3. do you have to buy levels of innate attack to match the character's thrust or swing damage but character strength does not affect the damage of the innate attack? 4. how does a character's ST affect the point cost of an innate melee attack? thanks for your help |

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
Innate Attacks are only based on your ST if you buy ST-Based (+100%). Should you buy that enhancement, use your Swing damage plus the dice of Innate Attack you paid for.

can you tell me where to look for that enhancement? I can't find it anywhere in the basic set. |

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
It's in Power-Ups 4, the big book of enhancements.
If you are talking about Strikers, they are always based on Thrusting.

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
seems like that should have been in the basic set. I'm not sure how to build innate melee weapons without it.
are innate melee weapons not normally based on ST? Thanks guys |

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
Basic Set has Strikers that add extra damage and change the damage type of your melee attacks, and are suitable as natural body parts. Powers adds ST-Based Innate Attacks for supers who can manifest a blade out of nowhere.

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
Innate attack damage is not normally based on ST, regardless of whether it is melee or ranged.
Claws, Striker, and Teeth do add a weapon that can be used normally with ST. If you are trying to apply special power effects to ST-based damage then you want to read Power-Ups 1: Imbuements. |

onetrikpony, it could be easier to use an article from Pyramid magazine, issue #3/65, “Natural Weapons” by Ítalo G. Gonçalves. It’s fairly easier to understand when all the info needed isn’t spread over several books.

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
To do it with just basic set, I'd start with a striker (B88) of whichever damage type you want. Then you can add Striking ST (also B88) with a (totally made-up) -20% limiter that it only works for the striker.

Re: newb help? innate melee attack
Striking ST for one attack is -60%.
IME I only allow ST Based Innate Attacks be based off of Thrust. They way outpace just buying strength for damage purposes for less points if based on Swing. |
