Cartography is navigation -4,
In our current situation, Bain’s Navigation SL is 14, hence cartography at 10.
With the mapping kit bonus, Bain has SL 11; he will take extra time for another +1

Bain’s final SL should be 12.

If the enemy realized my arrival, that would be on their last breath.

Once I heard of a magic "fire" that absorbs light.
Whether it’s real or not, is another tale.

By the way, taking into account what you asked before,
I can also use flames that don’t burn, light, of sorts.
I could cover myself in such flames, but I prefer to keep it simple, so I go for “ghost-lights” or what others often call a “will-o-wisps”. I can also point at things with this “light”, it resembles the beams of an aurora.

The party travels onward into the depths of the forest, following the Goblinwater.

(OOC: Random encounter.)

As the party makes their way further into the wilderness, they hear the sound of various creatures making noise and walking into the stream of water. A little further in, and they spot the cause of the commotion - a bunch of strange small people carrying weapons and survival gear, arguing. They have not noticed the party yet...

They're from a very different place: the elemental plane of earth, a place where water, air, and fire are rare. They have alternate ways of getting nourishment, they reproduce differently, and they're made of the same thing as the ground you walk on. So yes, they see the world very differently than we do.



The conjured elementals are pretty similar. They're just different elementals. I try to summon ones that want to come here, who want the new experience. After a trip of 24 hours, they're ready to go home. Some elementalists get the same ones every time. I'm not one. I want them to fight, and that means I want to access lots of different elementals.

Telrith will draw his weapon, quickly and quietly retrieve his shield from Chalkfist, and then tell the elementals to lay low and await his instructions.



If we've spotted them, we should get low, count them, and see what they are and what they're armed with.

Vic goes alongside Telrith quietly, and I would like to roll a perception (SL 11) to see if they are goblins or literally small people, draw the sword.

The creatures 15 yards ahead of the party are a scant three feet tall (SM -2) with tiny heads, misshapen features, bugged-out eyes and pot bellies. They have a blackened staff topped with a human skull stuck in the ground by them - their symbol? The humanoids are carrying knives and blowpipes, and they are gathering water from the stream.
(OOC: Anyone got Heraldry skill?)

Bain is in agreement with the party, they should observe the creatures first.

What kind of creatures are they?
What’s their number?
Is the gear obviously theirs? Does it look like the loot of a raid, does it fit their size?
What are they arguing about?

Combat details at OOC.

Oh, I heard there is a place called the "otherworld". I suppose it is similar to what you mentioned before, on a different scale, so to say. Can you visit the "earth plane"? Or... would you like to do so?

Alright, I will get closer trough stealth and camouflage.
When I am in position, approach their group, all of you.

I suggest you (Gottfried and Vic) take the front, while you (Gathika and Telrith) remain in the back.
The elementals should be beside you, protecting our gear and of course, you.

I will wait for their reaction, if they try to attack you, the hunt is on.
And if any of you yells: “NOW!” I will attack.

By the way, don’t underestimate blowpipes, the darts are often combined with poison.


Bain will observe the creatures, and proceed with the strategy I just mentioned in OOC.

Can Gathika use ocultism and hidden lore ancient civilizations, to understand the creatures or recognize the “coat of arms”?
