Re: Legacy Edition isn't a big change to TFT
Thanks for doing this Henry -- it's a very useful document to have.

Re: Legacy Edition isn't a big change to TFT
My conclusion is while Legacy has unleashed various monsters, dumped ST, and further advantaged wizards, it also has given us a more fine grained game that allows the players to make their own characters that are not as rigidly constrained to the roles SJ assumed back in 1980.
It takes a lot of memory points to fully recreate SJ's MASTER THIEF, but now you can pick and choose which part of his archetype to apply to your own character, including the mix of talents and magics to use.

Re: Legacy Edition isn't a big change to TFT
I feel like the capping of stat increases has radically changed (and improved) game play for PC's that last more than 20 or so sessions. Beyond that, the major changes (both improvements) are the addition of a ST-battery property to the wizard's staff and the revision and expansion of the UC and fencing talents (and perhaps also the tweaking of some other talents, like the break up of thief). But, overall this is very much the same game published in 1980, just better organized and much, much better supported with play components and supplements.

Re: Legacy Edition isn't a big change to TFT
Do the original TFT characters still get to do double damage on one-hex polearm charges, use the Advanced Melee options list, and put unlimited ST into missile spells? ;-D

No; 1d bonus for charges and 3 pt max for missile spells.
But you can still deliver any Hammertouch you want! |
