Default Weights and measures

To have the observed encumbrance effect the gold bars of death test need to weigh around 10 pounds (7 cubic inches of gold, say 1" x 2" x 3.5")

By ITL 67 there are 100 gold coins to the pound so that is $10,000 worth of gold and not the $1,000 listed value of the gold bar.

However a gold coin that weighed 100th of a pound would be smaller than an American penny.

The adjustment needs to be made at ITL 67. Copper coins are 100 to the pound and are the size of American pennies. Silver and gold coins are 20 to the pound and therefore around the size of the Spanish "Pieces of Eight" silver coins.

It's versimulitude. It has to "feel right", not be right. It's just a game mechanic to make people choose between the gold or the speed.

Doesn't it feel right to pillage "Pirate Coins"?

Talking about the gold bars. Doesn't matter how much they are worth or weigh in reality. Most people wouldn't think twice about it, much like emcumbrance.

Which is heavier 16 ounces of feathers or 16 ounces of gold?

(hint - it is a sort of trick question)

Bet most gamers aren't going to care about the troy weight system.

Maybe they're actually gold-plated silver bars. Seems like the kind of thing the Thorsz might do :-P

And I don't particularly mind if my gold coins are tiny, I just want 1 gold = 10 silver = 100 copper because it makes for easy math. I don't know about y'all, but my idea of "fantasy game" doesn't include busting out long division every time I need to make change.

I also noticed the gold bars weight being off for the value. I just treated them as gold painted bricks of lead that Thorsz gives you $1000 for each recovered.

Kind of like plastic eggs at an Easter egg hunt.

Thorsz just wants another obstacle for you to deal with and to drive you. Without paying out what a real chunk of gold would cost. Hey, he's king for a reason.
