I would say road encounters that are not ambushes are a rarity in themselves. It is hard to justify someone who is intending to attack you just pootling into it.

That is not to say an ambush cannot be initiated from an on-ramp for example and develop into a stern chase, but in that case the attacker should probably be starting closer (8" or less).

Most sensible road cars can accelerate to 80 and that makes a stern chase much more tedious and dangerous for the attacker as avoiding mines etc. is more of an issue at high speed.

Well Subs are pretty poor compared to Trikes , so have been designing a few Light Trikes based on Classic Subs :

Killer Trike Mk.3 - Light Reversed Trike , Light Chassis , Heavy Suspension , Medium Cycle Power Plant w/10pts CA , 3 HD Cycle Tires , Driver w/10pts CA , LMG Front w/14 Shots & 10pts CA , Plastic Armour : F6 , L4 , R4 , B5 , T2 , U2 , 2 Fake Wheelguards Front , 2pt CWG Back ,
2-2pt Wheel Hubs Front , Acceleration 10mph , Top Speed 132.5mph , HC 3 , 1,012lbs , $3,997 .

Very basic performance Trike often bought by those upgrading from lighter Motorcycles . Armour all round backed by Component Armour & some minimal Tire Protection . Chassis weight capacity allows for much growth with no loss of acceleration . Even more to it's maximum load . Obviously not for sustained heavy combat , but will survive two or three hits beyond that of what a Light Cycle could weather .

( Okay 14 Shots in the LMG is incredibly Cheesy but went with AADA minimum guidelines of '70% Ammo load' in their sponsored Events . Even though this model should never be seen in Arenas ... Also helped keep cost under $4,000 . Take one of these up against a Killer Kart & see who comes off best ;-)
Can be extensively upgraded & still kept under $5K - full load of HD Ammo for LMG , Offroad and/or Steelbelted Tires , MUCH more Armour , PCs on PP , HTMs or a mix of a lot of these without degrading it's performance too much . Attackers expecting these the basic model can be in for an unpleasant surprise ... Use , modify & enjoy . )

To be fair, you can improve the Killer Kart by replacing the Medium Plant with a Small plant with HTMs and 6 points of plastic CA round it.

You save $10 and 164 lb, not quite enough to be able to drop to a light chassis unfortunately. The only down side is that the top speed drops to a more sensible 97.5 (but who ever drove a killer kart at 135 anyway).

If you swap out the MG for an LMG as well, you can swap the 18 points of plastic for 10 points of metal and 10 points of plastic and still have $73 and 4lb left over. Enough for 2 Paint Grenades and a fully loaded Derringer to end your suffering if the car catches fire.

Loose 3 rounds from the LMG and you can add an extra 2 points of plastic armour and have 1lb and $111 for toys. Maybe some duellist's shades for a cool corpse and a Flaming Oil grenade for a smokin' hot one.

:)

We had very different games... Let me spell it out to you: 'Spiked obstacle course, flamethrowers on automatic, audience/inmate participation.'

Hedge Piggy by Swordtart:
Compact; Standard chassis; Heavy suspension;
Medium PP w/HTMs;
4 PR tires.
Driver, 2 passengers;
8 x Flechette Discharger (1 front and back and 2 at each other location except U);
2 x Smoke Discharger (2 U)
Smokescreen w/10xTear Gas (B);
Bumper Spikes F, Bumper Spikes B, Body Blades;
117 pts. Sloped Plastic (F: 23 R: 23 L: 23 B: 23 T: 15 U: 10);
2x6 pt. Plastic Hubs F; 2x6 pt. Plastic Guards B;
Cargo 49lb, no spaces.
Cost: $6,246, Wgt: 3,651, HC: 3, Top Speed: 97.5 (72.5), Accel: 5 (10).

Clearly designed by someone who had a bad day at the mall, "Hedge Piggy" has single role in life, killing pedestrians. It is hard to conceive of a legitimate use (anti-cyclist operation maybe), but footage is in circulation of it prowling round an arena full of people causing mayhem. Based on the occasional glipse of uniformed individuals outside the arena confines, it is believed that this "event" occurred in a prison somewhere as yet unspecified. Whether this was a draconian means of controlling a riot, some sort of vehicle test or just a method of executing prisoners in as barbaric a way as possible is open to question.

It's defensive profile is entirely adequate for use against light infantry. Whilst somewhat weak for a road model this design is clearly intended for use against poorly armed civilains or gang members. Against heavy infantry it's best defence is speed and its low profile.

The offensive armaments are unaimed which means a dedicated driver can maneuvre to take full advantage of the spies and blades that proliferate the design. An after market voice activated computer would improve the offensive potential (as could links) Even against armoured pedestrians flechette grenades are extremely effective and two triggered in quick succession virtually guarantees an incapacitation. The tear gas stream to the rear provides an effective protection against attacks from the rear arc and can also be used to corrale or incapacitate unprotected pedestrians.

With 46 lb capacity for personal equipment, the passengers could be heavily armed. Safe behind vehicular armour, they could contribute some useful long range offensive capability and this could conceivably consist of some anti-vehicle capability if the target were a cycle gang. A grenade launcher with either explosives or concussion grenades seems a logical adjunct to the vehicles existing suite.

I envisaged this as a VW Beetle covered in spikes and blades. Hedge Pig is 17th century english for the Hedgehog, the UK's cutest spiny mammal (much cuter than a porcupine). It is frequently road kill unfortunately and this is partway to restoring the balance. I saw a cartoon once about protecting hedgehogs from cars by genetically mutating them to the size of cars which sapwned this idea.

It should probably be a base tawny colour (though yellow is traditional for CW V-Dubs) with lots of gore plastered over it (of course a real Hedgehogs spines are purely defensive - did I point out how cute they are?). I don't know how effective it would be in a conventional fight, but I am itching to try it out in a "Zombie-Fest" style scenario.

I apologise, I'll get my coat ;)

My good friend Miss Gibb's is unusually skilled on taking on 'tougher' opposition & winning . Much to her partner's fury when she beats him soundly ... Here's a version of her infamous Road Trike :

Gibb's Puncher Mk.V - Medium Trike , X-Hvy Chassis , Hvy Suspension , Large Cycle PP w/PCs HTMs & 10pts CA , 3 Offroad PR Cycle Tires , Cyclist w/SWC & 10pts CA , VMG Left w/10pts CA , Sloped Plastic Armour: F34 , L42 , R28 , B34 , T14 , U12 , 1-5pt CWG Front , 2-6pt Wheelguards Back , Acceleration 5mph - 10mph w/HTMs , Top Speed 90mph , HC 2 ( HC 2 Offroad ) , 2,520lbs , $9,855 .

Well protected for a Trike , the Puncher isn't without teeth with it's accurate VMG mounted in a large firing arc .
Makes a excellent Light Escort or upgrade to OR Suspension for a very well defended budget Off Roader .

( Ridiculously hard to hit/kill outside of Point Blank range . Seen ATG armed Compact resort to ramming attempts when it failed time & again to make shots count . Armour placements easily rearranged to suit different combat environments - other than this one optimized for Highway use .
Side mounted VMG able to fire into Front arc , can make for some deadly Tire Shooting too . )

Racer: Nice to see a trike with a single weapon place it in the side arc.

Cohete Trike by Swordtart:
Light Trike; Extra Heavy chassis; Heavy suspension;
50 cid Engine; 4 gal. Economy tank;
3 Solid tires, HD Shocks.
Driver;
4 X Micro-missile Launcher w/40 x AP (2F, R, L), All Smart Linked;
Flaming Oil Discharger (B);
130 pts. Sloped Plastic (F: 35 R: 25 L: 25 B: 20 T: 15 U: 10);
Cost: $11,491, Wgt: 1,911, HC: 2, Top Speed: 62.5, Accel: 5.

Encountered in border raids the "Cohete" relies on saturation fire from 4 smart linked micro-missile launchers and inherent survivability. Often sweeping in from off road it will discharge several barrages before breaking off and regrouping. Hard to hit, if it needs to disengage it will drop flaming oil as cover.

Over the border the "Cohete" is used as a Jefe enforcer. Against unprotected villagers 40 micro-missiles can be a terrifying threat and can reduce light buildings to rubble very quickly.

Whilst not accurate individually a volley of micro-missiles can compensate by playing the numbers game. With a reduced load-out the missiles can be replaced with incendiaries (two volleys could put on a burn modifier of 16).

Basic Taxi/Passenger vehicle from Milner Cars :

Trident Taxi - Midsize , Std. Chassis , Hvy Suspension , Medium PP w/SCs & PCs , Fire Extinguisher , 4 PR Tires , Driver , MG in Turret , SD w/10 Explosive Spikes Back , Link MG-SD , 4 Spaces & 503lbs for Passengers/Cargo , Plastic Armour : F25 , L20 , R20 , B25 , T20 , U12 , 2-6pt Wheelhubs Front , 2-6pt Wheelguards Back , Acceleration 5mph , Top Speed 97.5mph ( 90mph fully loaded ) , HC 3 , 4,297lbs , $9,642 .

Based on an old British model from 2030 , the tried & true body has been upgraded for light combat . Useful as a Taxi/Medium Courier/Passenger Vehicle for quiter urban areas . On Freeways will probably find itself outmatched by faster , more heavily Armed & Armoured road users . The XH Model has X-hvy Chassis , Large PP & better Tire , weaponry & protection at the loss of a cargo space . Q versions exist with Turreted HMG Smartlinked to Concealed HMG Front or Back & internal protection . Some Q's replace SD with an MD or remove it for a Fake mounting instead . All models look identical - protective camouflage at work .

( Originally an unarmed Car I drew at Primary School in 1980 ! Way before I ever heard about Car Wars & before it officially existed ! Milner name came from the surname of an older Girl who looked after me ... )

Liked the look of the original Timeshifter counter from VG1 , but it was very poorly protected design ... update time :

Roadshifter 2068 - Luxury , X-Hvy Chassis , Hvy Suspension , Large PP w/HTMs & Fire Extinguisher , 4 Solid Tires , Driver w/SWC & 10pts CA , Three Passengers w/10pts CA around all three together , Turreted VMG w/Extra Magazine & 30 Shots Std. Ammo , SD Back w/20 Shots Explosive Spikes & 10pts CA , LD Radio , Link VMG-SD , Link VMG-HTMs , Plastic Armour : F36 , L30 , R30 , B32 , T30 , U13 , 2 Fake WGs Front , 2-8pt Wheelhubs Front , 2-8pt Wheelguards Back , 2 Fake Hubs Back , Acceleration 5mph - 10mph w/HTMs , Top Speed 90mph , HC 3 , 6,597lbs , $19,568 .

( This model will survive much longer on the Road & can swap Standard rounds for 15 Shots HD . Magno version mounts GG with a full mag . )
