Steampunk
I have a question for anyone who can answer it. What is the chance of the Steampunk and Steam-Tech books being updated from 3rd edition to 4th edition?

Re: Steampunk
Start hoping the second series from PK is the GURPS Girl Genius.

Re: Steampunk
I think it's safe to say "nonzero." They were popular books and there've been enough changes from 3E -> 4E -- and enough new ideas and fiction in the genre of steampunk -- that I don't doubt they'd sell if done right.

Re: Steampunk
I for one, would love to see (and would buy) a Steampunk series.

Re: Steampunk
I would like a Fantasy Steampunk mix. I like concepts from things like Kingdoms of Iron. I do like Bioshock too and would love to give that the treatment.
A varying Steampunk book with a bunch of larger than life tech options would be nice.

Re: Steampunk
Of the GURPS 3E genre books that haven't had 4E representation outside of issues of Pyramid, Cyberpunk and Steampunk are the ones that I can see having an actual chance at getting a fresh, updated release (as much as I love Cliffhangers and Atomic Horror, I'm not sure they'd have as much of a shot).

Re: Steampunk
There are a lot of unconverted GURPS books, probably due to licensing issues. I agree that Steampunk would be good though.

Re: Steampunk
Usually I just convert the 3rd edition rules myself, not that hard to do. Most of the books I use for inspiration anyway, making up some crunch is not that hard.
Want a steam powered robot....just use the rules given in 4th ed about robots. Want a Tesla gun? Just find some lightning based attacks or an electro laser. |

Re: Steampunk
I have the impression that it has much more popularity now than fifteen years ago.
Hayao Miyazaki movies and several anime (i.e. Full Metal Alchemist) used steamfantasy aesthetics in the last years. In literature, the biggest hits of new weird usually have steamfantasy elements - China Mieville and The Etched City to say some. Even if new weird is a niche, it is a bigger niche than steampunk alone. We have an example of steampunkish blockbuster, too, with Wild Wild West. While this and the above mentioned anime are not steampunk in themes, they totally are in aesthetics, and aesthetics is what appeal to the largest public. |
