Only if you use it two-handed, giving up the extremely valuable shield.

Hmm ok I forgot that...of course there is the Technique Mastery Perk(?) which lets you use Weapon A with Weapon B skill. So Spear w/Long Spear Skill via Rules Lawyery Perk...if It is allowed.

Not even with the finest of rules-lawyering and the most compliant of GMs, since there's no such thing as "Long Spear Skill". The Long Spear, like all other spears, uses Spear skill.

OKAY! A bit of news... I got back from chatting with the DM. I edited the first post, but here's a reprise:

130 points
-30 disadvantages maximum
NO advantages/perk maximum

TL3. I have equivalent of "$1000" in purchase options. There is probably some TL4 armor and stuff I will have to go up in the setting at some point.

Setting is Hyboria. We're Vikings, basically. Game starts gritty. New Character Points will come fairly freely. Some cinematic things are available on a case by case basis to start.

Only the first level of defense talents are available now.

Martial arts styles are in play, but we CAN buy techniques and such a la carte as long as it's appropriate for the culture.

"Low Tech" rules are not in play as far as I know.

The character won't likely be part of a shield wall.

Character is required to spend three points: 1 spear, 1 shield, 1 to unlock a modified (to be cheaper, without the throwing as a requirement) Viking Spear Fighting.

The everyman weapons are seax/spear/axe/dagger. The status/hero weapons is the sword.

Human attribute mins and max are in play, but strength can go up to 18.

That clears a bunch up. One thing though...

That doesn't signify, the Shield Wall Training perk, while fairly mandatory for skilled fighter in a shield wall, is extremely good for any user of a large shield. The 'sacrificial block' option might or might not come in handy, but negating the -2 penalty to attack is worth the perk in its own right.

Okay. If the perk is useful outside of it, that helps a lot!

I still don't know exactly where to place things, though!

Okay... TENTATIVELY, here is my quirk/perk/advantage list:

Status 5 (Huscarl, Minor noble, related to someone important)
Signature Gear 3 (1500 gp worth of Thrusting Broadsword and Armor and Large Shield)
combat reflexes 15
Enhanced Block - Shield 5
High Pain Threshold - 10
Shield Wall Training - 1
shoves and tackles - shield - 1

EDIT:
Here's a google docs link for what I have tentatively done so far

Should I make a new post rather than continuing to reply to here?

As long as posts are relevant to your original request or issues raised in the course of the thread, it's better to keep them here. That reduces clutter, and makes following thread topics easier.
