Default Illuminati: Quetion about special abilities

Hi!
I have only played a few games of Illuminati, but I can't figure out the rules about groups special abilities.

First of all, which groups is affected by different abilities?
Ex1: Groups that have +# on ANY attempt to controll/neutralize/destroy specfic group/political allaignment.

Ex2: Groups that have +# on DIRECT attack to controll/neutralize/destroy specfic group/political allaignment.

If one groups special ability says ANY, does this mean that any attack made by any group is affected by this rule, or just groups in the same powerstructure?

I hope my question was clear enough and that there is an easy anwer to it.

"+# on any attack" means any group in your power structure gets the bonus on attacks.

"+# for direct control", etc, means the bonus only applies if that specific group makes the attack.
