He wields a divinely imbued broad sword but also has five daggers, a short sword, and a hammer.

Gloran Odinsthrall: Cleric of Odin and Wizard: He came from the northlands and wears chain mail armor under a blue robe. He wears a fur hat and wields a rune staff which acts as an energy reserve and the runes etched upon the staff glow brightly when he casts magic. He has a raven for a familiar that often perches upon his shoulder. He has two daggers in his belt and a spell book. His clerical spell list is as a worshipper of a god of magic.

Jean-Claude LaSalle: Thief: Started life as a petty thief in Paris and due to his skill he was able to join the thieves’ guild. After a few years of training he decided to use his skills for profit. He wears leather armor and boots of silence. He has a garrote, a short sword and 3 daggers. He has four vials of poison and a kit of thief supplies.

Dvalin Ironaxe: A dwarf Barbarion who joined the adventuring party to satisfy his lustful greed. Not a selfish person but a person obsessed with precious metals. He wears plate mail armor and uses a huge battle axe. He carries two daggers and a crossbow as well.

The adventure begins in Valais. After a hearty breakfast at a tavern, the party advances towards their destination high in the Alps. They are riding horses and have three mules carrying supplies. Father Gregory and Sir Roderick say a prayer before the journey while Gloran sends his raven up into the sky to observe the weather. All seems to be fine and the morning is pleasant. The party ascends a trail and begins their journey. The party travels three days without incident and they were able to supplement their rations with hunting small game. After this the trail was much higher elevation so the animals were much scarcer and they party failed to make their hunting skill roll and had to use their rations. This happened for three days and then a snowstorm cam and the party was forced to shelter in a large cave. The party had night watch shifts and on Dvalin’s shift he heard a snorting noise. Then he saw eyes in the distance which came from three cave bears of immense size. The came through the cave entrance quickly and Dvalin grabbed his axe and shouted alarm to the sleeping party. The bears rushed in to attack and tried to bite Dvalin but he was able to dodge. The rest of the party was quickly on their feet and began to attack. Sir Roderick swung his sword at one bear and injured it badly. Gloran began casting a Lightning Bolt spell and Father Gregory swung his mace but the bear dodged. Jean-Claude hid in the shadows waiting for a chance to strike.

The injured bear was stunned and one bear was able to rake Dvalin with its claws doing little damage though due to the heavy armor. The other charged at Gloran with an all out attack. Sir Roderick swung his sword at the charging bear and the bear stumbled to the ground.

Gloran was able to release his spell which emanated from his glowing rune staff. A huge bolt of lightning shot forth with a loud thunderclap. It struck the last bear and caused the bears to turn tail in fright.

The party then checked to see if everyone was alright and Father Gregory healed Dvalin. The rest of the night was uneventful.

The party continues onward the next day. As they proceeded, Gloran’s raven squawked loudly as it circled the party in the air. A rumbling was heard and then an avalanche started. The party was quick to turn around and avoid the falling rocks. They all had to make an animal handling roll to keep their mounts and mules from becoming spooked. The party was safe but the mountain pass was blocked.

The party decided what do. The horses would never be able to cross the blocked pass so the party looked at the map to see if there was another route. There was an overpass that was steep but it could be able to bypass the blocked passage and it seemed it would only take an extra four or five days so the party decided to use the overpass.

The over pass rose quickly in elevation and the party was cold and needed twice as long to rest. The animals had no straw for grazing and Father Gregory was quite fatigued from creating food. The rations were also reduced as well. Finally the party reached a wooded depression and they decided to rest there and also search for food and graze their horses and mules. As the party stayed in the vale, Gloran was able to notice some movement. The party rose at once and then they heard some whispering. The party adopted defensive posture but then all was silence. Sir Roderick and Jean-Claude went to find out what was the disturbance. Jean-Claude was able to notice some tracks which appeared to be of a small humanoid race. Both followed the tracks until they abruptly ended at a steep slope of the side of the mountain. They then called the rest of the party to help them. Dvalin was able to notice that the tracks were of mountain gnomes. The party was at a loss as to why they ended at the side of the mountain until Gloran hit the side of the mountain with his staff. The area next to the foot prints had a hollow sound and then they knew that this was a specially crafted door made by the mountain gnomes.

The party decided to knock on the door and called out to the gnomes saying that they mean them no harm. After a few moments the gnomes began to talk to the party. Soon the gnomes opened the door and came out and greeted the party. The gnomes then invited the party to a feast in their honor. The party accepted and then later that nigh they entered the door of the Granite Hall to meet all of the gnomes and their leader Laird Gwaylor who was an aged and scared gnome. There was much feasting and quaffing of gnomish ale and then Laird Gwaylor pounded his flagon upon the trestle and all became silent.

“This feast is for you brave adventurers as you are rare around these parts. As Laird of the Uvalinoniz, our gnome clan, we welcome you with open arms. But we must warn you that there are goblin-kin bands around here and they seem to be getting stronger as they continually raid our valley for food and slaughter of our kind. We have slain these creatures by the score but they continually come from the west.” Laird Gwaylor then had an embarrassed look upon his face and he seems to be in discomfort as he asked the party for help.

Laird Gwaylor then says that “goblin-kin are the bulk of the scum but they are always accompanied by fiercer things, sometimes trolls, sometimes ogres and the last time giants. We must fight these monsters and losses occur. We do not request your aid in fighting a mere band of goblin-kin but for these creatures and the thing which commands them forth.

The party then agrees to help the gnomes and a toast “To your health!” as tankards are raised. The party then decides to set off at dawn.
