Default Torch in HTH?

Can you retain your torch in HTH combat or is a troll or green slime in HTH a certain doom?

I take the "you must drop your weapon" due to most things (HTH, falling, missile weapon user getting engaged) as usually being optional and code for "you probably won't be able to use it, so you should drop it", rather than "the rules say your literally must drop your weapons".

We have always had it that slimed people could keep and use a torch in HTH with a slime.

I distinguish between slimes that are on you but not "REALLY" HTH. And trolls and others that can actually grapple you. Trolls drop, slimes no drops

Slimes can't engage figures so they don't engage in HTH?

Hard to do "Hand to Hand" when you have no hands. Yes you engage, but the rules/effects should be a little different

A related question: Once a slime has slimed you, is there any way to get it off other than killing it? E.g., should you be allowed to disengage from HTH with a slime?

from Death Test 2. #91. If a slime gets into someone's hex, and they do not immediately repel it (by rolling a 5 or 6 on the HTH reaction), the slime sticks to them, until it dies or its enemy does..... You can't move since you're in HTH combat with a 100 lbs of jelly.

My thinking is no disengage

I don't think so. It's on you, not just grappling you

A: Does Wizard page 23 "He may cast spells, but only on himself or his foe in HTH, and is at a -4 DX for that" apply ITL?

If so which non-fire spells hurt green slimes? (Staff occult strikes? Including from your silver dagger in HTH?)
