Puckle Gun: What skill to use?
The Puckle Gun in Pyramid 3-52 Low-Tech II (p.20-22) is an interesting weapon.
However, the table on page 19, which would usually list the skill used does not. The weapon is basicly a large tripod mounted musket. So does it use Guns (Musket) or does it use Gunner (Cannon) because it's tripod mounted? Any help or insight is appreceated. Thx. |

Re: Puckle Gun: What skill to use?
Gunner - since it's a mounted weapon. Just like a GPMG is Guns in light role and Gunner on a sustained mount.
...if you can hand fire one on the other hand*, feel free to add a Guns speciality. * if, for example youze ectually gots a clenk gon ... or just happen to possess a positive size modifier and appropriate STR. |

Generally, that'd be Guns (LMG).

It uses Guns(Musket). At least according to Low-Tech (the book, not the Pyramid issue). IDHMBWM but it was in the table with other muskets and arquebuses - look it up.

Re: Puckle Gun: What skill to use?
As Cthuga has stated above, according to Low-Tech it uses "Guns (Musket)".
It seems odd as it is mounted on a tripod. Since it's TL4 I don't want to introduce skills like machinegun that are TL5. However I am thinking of using "Gunner (Cannon)". |

Re: Puckle Gun: What skill to use?
The correct skill is Gunner/TL4 (Cannon).
It is not Gunner (Machine Gun), since the weapon cannot fire bursts (p. B198). It is not Guns (Musket), since the weapon is not handheld (p. B199). Low-Tech is in error. Cheers HANS

Re: Puckle Gun: What skill to use?
I think the real question in determining what skill something uses is how it's used. The Puckle Gun is pretty clearly not designed to be used like a rifle, and honestly more closely resembles a cannon than a personal firearm. A wall gun, on the other hand, while typically being mounted on account of their high weight (and exceptional recoil), is clearly used much like a musket on a musket rest. So, the Puckle Gun would use Gunner (Cannon), the wall gun would use Guns (Musket) - or Guns (Long Arm) if using the condensed list of specialties from Pyramid #3/65.

Re: Puckle Gun: What skill to use?
Yeah, I was mistakenly thinking it was rapid firing by modern, rather than Low Tech, standards. Gunner (Cannon) with Guns (Musket) for a handheld version seems good.
