Being able to have a smoother pressure curve that stays at the peak longer should allow a slightly higher velocity and a lighter weapon. However, most grenade launchers use a high-low pressure system that gives much of that effect anyway, so the advantage would be small.

Come to think of it, since GLs uses plastic cartridges rather than caseless ammunition, they should probably not benefit from ETC.

It would produce a slightly less painful shock, but spreading over a couple milliseconds won't have any effect on controlling the weapon, it's still way under human response time.

You might handwave it as using pure electrothermal I suppose.

I don't see why ETC can't be used in cased weapons.

Cased ammunition provides part of the seal for the breech of the weapon. You would need to double the price of the weapon to account for the better tooling, though you could halve ammunition weight in that case. In the case of 'stacked' ammunition, you would have issues with detonation though.

The case could be combustible. The shell for the M1A1 tank are semi- combustible leaving only a base plate to be ejected.

Well, like all low velocity rounds, caseless or ETC should not be anything like the half weight UT gives for caseless (50% weight reduction is reasonably accurate for comparison to cased telescoping rifle ammunition, pistols and shotguns are more like 25%, I'm having trouble finding the weight on GL case weight).

ETC probbaly should not be applied to low pressure rounds in the first place. Applying ETC to a .45 Long Colt produces a lower powered round than just turning that low pressure .45 Colt into a high pressure .454 Casull. Now applying ETC to a .454 Casull is impressive.

Eh, it would actually be pretty useful for variable velocity artillery, there's a reason howitzers have separate powder and projectile, and that is perfectly useful for grenade launchers.
