I just realized something... This world is essentially the Anti-Campbell (IW p119).

Since Campbell was a world without Science-Fiction, which lead to a world without scientific progress, then the opposite should be true.

A world where Sci-Fi is the king of genres would lead to more and more young people being inspired to become scientists, which may lead to swifter scientific progress.

If John W. Campell and Clive Cartmill were still alive, they might disagree.

That's exactly the line of thinking that led me to consider Gernsback-2 in my earlier post.

I must admit that I had to Google Farnsworth Wright to suggest that name. (In fact, I had to look up where and when "The Call of Cthulhu" was published.)

For anyone who wishes to remedy their lack of knowledge of Lord Dunsany's work, The Book of Wonder is available as a free download from e23.

What does Gernsback-2 have to do with Fanboy-1, though?

Oh, I was not aware that Gernsback-2 was already "assigned"; I only checked the listings on the GURPS Wiki. Had I known, I'd have said Gernsback-3 instead.

I was working off the theme of names of magazine editors. On the Campbell timelines, the loss of inspiring SF leads indirectly to slower scientific progress, while on the Gernsback lines, science advances more quickly in some areas. Since Gernsback-1's changepoint didn't actually involve a magazine editor, I moved on to my suggestion of Wright, for lines where literary activities are producing changes in fields other than science.
