Um, is it just me, or does Regrowth seem a bit overpriced at 40 points for what it does?

Yeah, it does seem overpriced. RPK addressed this in his House Rules, dropping its cost to 10p, or 1/2 the cost of No Eyes + No Vitals + Unbreakable Bones.

Oh, ok. It just seems a bit pricey for something without a combat advantage

Direct combat utility definitely isn't the only thing that factors into advantage price, but the big argument I see is that in a game where Regrowth is an option, usually there's also ways to get those limbs repaired, recovered, or replaced with something that's at least "good enough" if not better.

And games where Regrowth isn't an option, the price doesn't matter.

Still having both arms when you fight your next battle isn't an advantage ?

Sure it is, but you can get it for much cheaper than 40 points (Unbreakable Bones at, what, ten points?).

And spending 40 points on +20 HP means that while your arms can be severed, it will be damned hard. And as an added bonus, you've got 20 extra HP!

Sure if your next battle is a few months away. If it's the next day, you're at just as much of as disadvantage as the guy who didn't have Regrowth. And at far more of a disadvantage than the guy who spent 10 points on Injury Tolerance (Unbreakable Bones).

Regrowth is overpriced for what it does. It's one of the advantages that maybe didn't get as close a review as it needed in the Great Edition Overhaul. Such is life! Canonically, its value isn't going to change, so hopefully the GM will manage to make it worthwhile for any PC who takes it.

As a house rule, it'd be more fair to make it work much faster (and then apply Takes Extra Time to turn it into something that takes days, weeks, or months) or to drop the price. In my games, I did the latter, making it worth 10 points. Never got a complaint about it.

(If you prefer the former approach, I'd suggest 1d/2 hours for a finger, 1dx3 hours for a hand, and 1dx6 hours for an arm. Applying Takes Extra Time 8, bringing the cost down to the minimum 8 points, then gets you about the equivalent of 1d-1 weeks, 1d+1 months, and 2d+1 months, respectively. Close enough.)

What should be the price if we require a rational must eat lots of food to regrow?

Default Regrowth takes such a long time that I don't think you would notice the extra food requirements.
