The tsiants I grabbed for the Facets campaign were clearly American Indian ogres. The (admittedly few) stories I found ascribed any number of sociopathic behaviors to them.
Clearly, a member of a tribe, or a small, subsistence-agriculture village, who behaved in monstrous fashion didn't just harm the victim(s). He or she caused a special type of emotional harm to everyone, and the folktales reflect that.
