[Powers] IT: Diffuse w/ Infiltration. Price of Infiltration Only?
How would you price an Infiltration Only version of Diffuse w/ Infiltration?
In other words, I want a character to have the ability to seep under doors, porous objects, etc. without any of the Injury Tolerance benefits of Diffuse. I could see some version of Insubstantial, Permeation, Shadow Form, or the like working as well, but I have no idea how to price an Accessibility limitation to only have it work if there is a clear path of air between the two locations. |

(1) Subtract the cost of IT (Diffuse) from the ability. That's -100 points. Since Infiltration is really an Enhancement to Diffuse, that bit would be the +40%, or 40 points as an "Infiltrate Only" ability.
(2) For a more RAW approach, use Temporary Disadvantage (No IT(Diffuse)). This is a Limitation worth -100%. (And keep in mind that the point break for this Temp Disad is capped at -80 points, along with the total Limitation being capped at -80%. Those are two separate limits that aren't the same thing, but easy to confuse since they both involve an 80% figure.) So if those are the only modifiers for the ability, we'd have IT (Diffuse), Infiltration (+40%), Temporary Disad (no IT, -100%) for a net -60% and a net cost of 40 CP. (Same as the earlier number; how nice. But this method works better once you start throwing in other modifiers.) You also might want to just limit the combat utility of Diffuse by putting a high FP cost on it, and perhaps a severe Maximum Duration or Limited Use. If a character can only "go Diffuse" for the one second it takes to seep under a door, then that character won't get a lot of benefit in combat from the ability. You might prefer this sort of build for narrative consistency. ("Why does it only hurt in combat but not out of combat?" "Why doesn't this gas cloud get hurt by the same things that hurt me?") |

The ability to travel through obstacles given a certain condition is Permeation. I'd call "small holes and cracks" very common, for 40 points. This has the benefit of matching the cost anaraxes gave for his builds.

Thanks for the replies! The RAW build by Anaraxes looks great.
I'm still not sure how Permeation works to allow the character to move through objects much smaller than his physical dimensions, but I sort of see how that build would work as well. |

Having the visual appearance of where your organs should be and actually needing them to function are two different things. The organs looked like they were there just because it would have looked weird on screen to not have them.

Quote:
With that said, however, both HP and Injury Tolerance are arguably worth less for a character with Insubstantial. A character with Ectoplasmic Materialization sees [-28] to cost. For a default (10 HP) character, Ectoplasmic Materialization would be 9 HP with Only While Insubstantial -10%, and IT: Homogenous and No Blood with Only While Substantial -30%*. That's [-1.8] and [-13.5], respectively, for a net [-15.3], which would round to [-15]. That implies the Limitations may be worth roughly twice the above, so bonus HP with Only While Insubstantial would be -20%, while IT: Homogenous and No Blood with Only While Substantial would be roughly -60%. *The -10% Accessibility of Only While Insubstantial is implies -30% for the opposite. EDIT: On second thought, Only While Substantial should be worth less of a discount than default, as IT isn't nearly as useful while Insubstantial. Simply sticking with -30% would mean the HP would have to be -80%, which is probably too much of a discount, meaning this methodology is flawed. Just eyeballing it, I'd say -60% for Insubstantial Only HP is probably around the right level.
