Hah Ha! You and I both know what the Sociopolitical world of Socerer-Kings looks like; it looks like Robert E. Howard's Hyborian-World of Conan, and it looks and PLAYS like MY Cidri; and by your use of the term itself, I might hazard a guess that it possibly looks like your world too! LOL!

Indeed, the Hyborian Age was a great influence on my early ideas of what was right and fitting for the political science of a fantasy world. Also: Jack Vance, Fritz Leiber, and Fritz Leiber again. Now, is it a good thing, or a bad thing, that Song of Ice and Fire was not available for my early reading list?

Cidri would have been a darker place, for sure.

LOL! I am going to gamble that this MAY VERY WELL BE a Trick-Question!

Rolling 6d6 vs IQ to Detect IQ Trap,..

I will cite paragraph 1, page 5, of: 'In The Labyrinth', Steve Jackson, Metagaming; 1980:

"Cidri is a big enough to hold thousands of Earths; it has room for the world of every Game Master who'll ever put pencil to hex-paper. There is room here for every sort of fantasy adventure to coexist - in a logical manner."

Rolling 8d6 vs IQ to Disarm IQ Trap,....

IF that statement is true, then whatever the measure of the overall level of "Cultural Luminance" of Cidri on-the-whole, ergo, it MUST also be true, that any of it's thousands of individual alternate Earths contained therein, REGARDLESS of individual Cutural Luminance, sum: MUST coexist - in a logical manner.

Bottom-Line: Regardless of what you read, or did not read at the time, as each Game Master is empowered to illuminate his/her world to their individual taste and vision - as informed by the root philosophy at the core of the game itself - therefore, and in this case, the concept of "a good thing" and "a bad thing" cannot exist, therefore, it cannot be applied.

Okay Steve,.. "Survey Sez"?

"I beg leave to remind the Cavalry Board that very few people have ever been killed with the bayonet or sabre, but the fear of having their guts explored with Cold Steel in the hands of battle maddened men has won many a fight." -Gen. George Patton

And of course, the Poet Laureate of the British Empire:

Gold is for the mistress - silver for the maid
Copper for the craftsman cunning in his trade.
"Good!" said the Baron, sitting in his hall
But steel - cold steel is master of them all.

I think that the adjective "cold" connotes a lack of pity and harshness - appropriate for bayonets.

The subject is old but there is very useful information. Thanks

There was an author that I read back then that used drugs that only effected people who had the "Magical aptitude" gene. Can't remember the author right now, but her stories followed a child king who was a half-bread. I think it was "the Deryni Chronicles". There was a Space Gamer article about the race that lead me to the books.

Um, watching them point a silver dagger at someone 6 feet away and then that person goes, "ow!"
