The aMUSE Corp Executive Secretary's role on the Committee is predominantly for oversight and liaison. He or she does have a veto power though, for any action that may cause significant damage to aMUSE's position or reputation, threaten the lives of aMUSE's civilian personnel, or compromise the confidential nature of the corporation's support for Directorate S. The current position is held by Veronica Quartz, a former top agent of the Directorate who moved over to the corporate side when she retired from field work. She is a keen student of geopolitics, has a photographic memory and a slew of doctorates from microbiology to macroeconomics. She also has the Directorate's second highest body count for unarmed combat and fourth overall. In the Committee chamber, Quartz nurses her pug and guzzles matcha frappuccinos, but she gives shrewd, measured advice for any action the Committee has under consideration. --- Question 18 Who is currently the Directorate's top agent? Talking about outside of the Directorate, then there's a Cuban bartender, who overheard a conversation twenty eight years ago between the former spook now known as Mr Livingston and the man now ranked fourth richest in the world. There's the investigative journalist sitting on the story of a lifetime, but certain that revealing the merest whisper of it would be fatal. And there's the fourth richest man's former business partner of twenty eight years ago, who is now himself head of an international criminal network.

Re: [GAME] Surveil a Superspy Setting!
Question 18
Who is currently the Directorate's top agent? [d6: 6 sentences] Question 19 What was the Directorate's greatest blunder? [d6: 6 sentences] Answer 18 - Prime Agents The top agents of Directorate S are referred to as "prime agents". Each Prime Agent is identified with a prime number. Notable prime agents include: - Agent 47, notable for preventing The Council from starting a war between India and Pakistan. - Agent 23, who exfiltrated 30 dissidents from Chinese gulags. - And Agent 71, who stopped a weapons sale between a Central Asian warlord and the Scarlet Hand. Answer 19 - Agent 17 Agent 17 was perhaps one of the most competent agents in the last twenty-five years, and resolved crisis after crisis. When the rogue scientist, Alice Wiley's compound was located in the Amazon rainforest, 17 was the natural pick to investigate and sabotage. Unfortunately, it seemed that Agent 17 made a mistake and captured/killed. Six weeks later, Agent 17 re-emerged, after apparently escaping custody, and was soon put back on active duty. This was a mistake. Shortly after returning to duty, Agent 17 compromised the Darwin facility, killed 86 personnel, and ended Veronica Quartz's career before escaping. Questions Question 15 Is there a dominant national source or homeland for Directorate S? 4 sentences Question 16 What is the stated mission of the Iron Shield PMC? (see answer 3) 2 sentences Question 17 What kind of operations does "The Council" (see answer 2) usually launch? 2 sentences Question 20 How are agents trained or indoctrinated? [d6: 5 sentences] Question 21 What does Wiley research? [d6: 3 sentences] Question 22 How was Agent 17 turned? [d6: 6 sentences] |

Their mission is to "enable and assist redevelopment, rebuilding and renormalization of commerce and trade in war-afflicted regions." This means they defend the assets, logistics and personnel of corporations who operate in trouble zones, whether they're legitimate companies trying to assist the locals, vultures swooping in to make a quick buck, or even less savoury outfits that seek to prolong the situation. "The Council" is a shadowy cabal of stockbrokers and financiers who, hungry for ever greater profits, operate a "dark" stock market for investing in criminal enterprises. Apart from profiting on the returns on this criminal activity, and from illegal manipulation of real-world markets, they engineer catastrophe and calamity around the globe for which they can take high-yield positions. --- Question 23 What are the 7 branches of Directorate S? (cf Ans 9) [d6: 4 sentences] Question 24 According to the Directorate's current intel, what is the next terrorist operation being planned by the Scarlet Hand? The higher echelons of the organisation have a notable majority of Singaporeans, though it's very hard to prove if they're actually alumni of Singapore's SID.* And if they're not Singaporean, they're just as likely to either be from allied countries in the region, or be ex-members of Five Eyes agencies who had been stationed in the region. Going further down into the rank-and-file shows a broader cross-section of agents' nationalities, because as Directorate S's reputation spread it was able to attract later recruits from further afield. However, there has been a recent, unexpected uptick in recruits from one particular region. * Some light background reading. Note the SID's high level of secrecy, it's connections with the Five Eyes nations, mentions of Darwin, and how it's restricted in being able to investigate corporate espionage. --- Which country or region has recently been a good recruiting ground for new agents? [d6: 6 sentences. I've been rolling very high...]

Re: [GAME] Surveil a Superspy Setting!
Wiley is a um... "Biological" researcher, her License to practice medicine being very firmly and vigorously revoked over 20 nations. She specializes in longevity, but will tinker around with any procedures or experiments she thinks the rest of the world "doesn't have the will to perform". She usually lets others work up the theory before designing a "practical experiment" to perform. Quote:
Question 26 Where does Wiley get her funding? Question 27 What injury or other obstacle keeps veronica from performing field work? (see answers 19 and 13) EDIT: we both came up with singapore at the same time? that's kind of crazy...

During the Darwin incident, Veronica Quartz was the first to notice something had gone awry. She acted quickly and confronted Agent 17, who promptly shot her twice. Her wounds were non-fatal, but she was shot in the shoulder and lost some mobility. There are many jobs that can done even with a shoulder wound, but super-spy is not one of them. |

Re: [GAME] Surveil a Superspy Setting!
Answer 22- Agent 17's Defection
In short, Agent 17 was brainwashed, albeit in a rather sophisticated manner using a form of gene therapy. One avenue of Alice Wiley's longevity research is selective gene expression. An organism switches genes on and off throughout different stages of development, so it's theoretically possible to achieve rejuvenation, muscle gain, fat reduction and so on by getting growth-stage genes to express. Related to this, Wiley's team is able to revert a subject to an impressionable, childlike development stage, making the subject's mind malleable and receptive to familial imprinting or obedience modification, for example. After being submitted to this treatment, Agent 17 left the compound completely loyal to Wiley, seeing her as a supreme mother-figure, less able to betray her than his own mother. He also received other rejuvenative therapies, making him stronger, faster, tougher and more agile, helping him get the drop on his fellow Primes. Answer 26 - Wiley's Funding [d6: roll of 3] Wiley has a chain of high-end health and rejuvenation spas operating as a front for her activities, which is one income stream. Furthermore, she counts a small number of high-ranking members of The Council among her clientele, thus gaining an additional modest level of investment from them on the dark stock market. However, she has also managed to maternally imprint one of these members with her gene therapy technique, and is now getting a healthy injection of capital from him as well. --- Oops, looks like we have two Question 26's. That was probably my fault, as I went back and edited it in after posting. I'll move it down here instead and renumber it. Question 28 Which country or region has recently been a good recruiting ground for new agents? [d6: 6 sentences.] Question 29 Is the Directorate's existence publicly known? [d6: 4 sentences] Question 30 Give 6 facts about the fourth richest man in the world. [d6: 6 sentences] Question 31 What was Agent 17's objective in Darwin? [d6: 3 sentences] Question 32 Where is Agent 17 now? (And what's his new nom de guerre?) [d6: 3 sentences] NB: The only open questions at the moment are from me, so I need some more fodder.... --- Quote:
