I've actually done classes under the MEMAG guys, in longsword, Messer (two systems), and staff.

We might want to rename the thread, as it has grown beyond just wrestling in armor. I should probably also move the second group of links to page 1; perhaps this can be a resource thread.

Very interesting videos, which raise some questions in my mind.

First, the plate armor, though it doesn't seem to restrict movement to a great extent, probably would limit vision. Would this make it harder to counter some of the lower-body attacks, such as leg hooks or trips as seen with the polearm?

Second, there's one example of the Messer used to literally disarm an attacker while parrying. Would this just be a Wait -> Stop Hit? Or perhaps a new technique, "Armed Aggressive Parry" or something?

You don't need a new technique at all. Wait and Stop Hit is the way to go. We specifically had this in mind while we worked on Stop Hit and the rules cover this situation more than adequately, I believe.

Use Parry if you're most concerned with stopping the sword attack without regards to attacking your opponent in the process. Use this if you prefer to try both in one go. It's more dangerous, but hey, it happens.

Would this be the method to model any of the meisterhauen?

How do you do all that holding of the sword by the blade without problems?

If you do it enough, you build up a lot of calluses, you know, and that allows you to do things like the murder-stroke, lay pure portland cement without gloves, and eat good Texas chili barehanded.

Or you just wear gauntlets. But the above is way, way more badass.

sjard, single-time defenses can be represented many ways in GURPS Martial Arts. Aside from Stop Hit, see Counterattack and Riposte (or Dodge + a subsequent Attack maneuver). Which one best represents a particular real-world technique depends on the situation. For example, attacking with a meisterhau is just one of the many variations on an Attack; pulling back a threatened leg while stabbing your companion in the face is a Dodge + Attack

You don't let your hand slide on it. You don't need gloves or huge calluses, though they help. A few people have taped themselves grabbing a sword by the blade and being pulled around by someone else holding the handle. The closest video I can think of is this one.
