I've a little knowledge of Golarion (Pathfinder's D&D3 campaign setting). There's apparently a dead-magic zone that has allowed a technological society to grow. It gives a reason for guns and gadgets that aren't based on magic.

Seems like a fun idea, especially with a system like GURPS. The dead-magic zone can be the home base for technicians, who compete with mages in the rest of the world.
