Introducing Munchkin to new people

Hello everyone

I've played the original Munchkin and a couple of the expansions now, but I don't own any yet. I was about to buy one of the versions when a few of my friends suggested that I bring some games for a trip to a house at the ocean.. You know.. If the wheather stops us.

My question is which version to bring. Most of my friends are not the typical geeky D&D person. Is another game with more common references like Legends a better pick for these people, or does the original version hold up for these as well? What are your experiences?
