Default New player with lots of questions

I'm new to this game and have lots of questions.

1. After kicking door if you get a curse do you still get to loot the room or look for trouble?
2. If you do not find a monster when kicking down the door but do when you loot the room do you still get to play the mister or one from your hand after looting?
3. When fighting multiple monsters do you fight them separate or do you add their total against yours? When someone plays a one shot against these does it go towards a specific monster or the group as a whole?
4. When getting help can more than one person add their combat level? If not, is there a limit to how many people that could play one shot items to help you win?
5. When playing a one shot item do you get to direct whether it goes towards the monster or munchkin? Or does it always go towards munchkin unless it says you get to pick?
6. Can you only trade items?
7. When can you apply a card to the table to be in play like a race or class? Does it have to be during your turn or after? At the beginning of the game do you have to wait till your turn to put cards down?
8.Can one shot items be kept on table?
9.Can you fight one monster and flee the others? Or are they all together? This concept is confusing to me..
10. What cards can be kept in front of you on the table?

As a general rule, we prefer not to have a lot of unrelated questions in a single post. However, your questions are quick, so I'm going to answer them rather than split this up.

Yes, you can loot/look for trouble following a Curse.

Looting the Room means you cannot Look for Trouble that turn. It's one or the other.

Monsters fight you together; you have to beat their combined combat strength. Monster Enhancers (the cards that say "-5/+5/+10 to Monster") apply to a specific monster; other bonuses apply to the monster side collectively.

Only one person gets to join the combat as a helper. Anyone may play one-shot cards to help either side.

The person playing the card chooses which side to help.

Yes, and only Items in play.

You can play a Race or Class as soon as you get the card, or at any time on your turn. Everyone has a chance to play cards before the game officially gets underway; you don't have to wait until your turn.

No, they stick together. If you can't beat them all, combined, you have to Run Away from each monster.

As a general rule, and noting that there are some exceptions in specific sets: Your active Class and Race cards (plus Super Munchkin and Half-Breed). Items (any cards with a Gold Piece value printed on them), as long as you only have one Big item on the table. Some special Treasure cards such as Really Impressive Title that look like permanent Items can also be played on the table. Cheat! is played with an Item. Hireling can be played with an Item or on its own, and you can change out the Item that goes with it when you feel like.

Cards you cannot keep in play: Spare Class and Race cards. Monsters. Monster Enhancers. Wandering Monster. Curses (unless it is a Curse with an ongoing or upcoming effect, kept out as a reminder). Super Munchkin or Half-Breed without a Class or Race card, respectively. Cheat! without an Item card.

OK, this is how we always first played, but when Steve Jackson played the game on Table Top, he and everyone else playing didn't put any cards on the table until it was their (first) turn. Please verify it's ok to put cards into play from your hand before player #1 starts his/her turn...?
Thanks!

I'm not going to hunt down all the places where someone has already asked that question and we've explained that they did several things "wrong" on that episode of Table Top, and, well, several others that I've seen concerning other games, usually for the sake of simplicity or time constraints. Please do not use that show as the instruction manual for playing Munchkin. The self-stated purpose of the show is to showcase the games, not teach them, so often times they miss things, leave things unclear, or do things incorrectly.

It's OK to play those cards before the game, but it's not required. And in the specific case of TableTop, the players were asked to play their cards as their turn came around so the show could feature each player's character.
