USS Hannah (TL5)
This 78-ton, 4-gun topsail schooner lays claim to being the founding vessel of the United States Navy. She was hired into service by General George Washington, and commanded by Nicolson Broughton. Setting off on September 5, 1775, her career ended but one month later when she was run aground by the British sloop Nautilus. Although she was saved, she was soon decommissioned as more suitable ships were found. Subassemblies: Body with Mediocre hydrodynamic lines +6, one 45' Foremast +0, one 46' Main Mast +0. Powertrain: 1,656 sf of Brigantine-rigged Cloth Sails (topsail schooner rig). Occupancy: 15 crew. Minimum crew is 1 driver + 2 sailors. Cargo: 49 tons. Armor: 3/5W overall Weaponry: 4x 4-pounder Cannons [Body:L,R] (100 shots each). Body: Navigation instruments, one cabin, 5 hammocks, 450 man-days provisions, 8 gunner crew stations, 3,200-lb. winch (capstan). On Deck: One 12-man cockboat. Statistics: Size: 55'x16'x53' Payload: 54.4 tons Lwt.: 79.5 tons Volume: 7,800 cf. Maint.: 85 hours Price: $54,857 HT: 7. HPs: 1770 Body, 52 Foremast, 55 Main Mast. wSpeed: 10.7 wAccel: 0.4 wDecel: 1 wMR: 0.05 wSR: 5 Draft: 8'. Flotation Rating: 222 tons. Design Notes: Structure is Light, with Standard materials. Waterproofed. Armor is DR 5 Standard Wood. Primitive controls. The heights of all masts were calculated based on model of the ship. Volume was calculated as 100 cf per ton of displacement. The volume of the armor is included in the design as per the option on p. VEii5. Design draft was doubled for better realism. WPS is 1.5x “pdr” (p. SW104), CPS is $3 x WPS (p. SW104) and VPS is WPS/150 (p. VE108).
